What is my background and how did I become a genealogist?
One clear day, a senior computer expert decides that what he really wants to do in life is research the history of families. How did that happen? It was a complete coincidence…
My son came to me one day, saying he remembers his grate grandfather is from Germany and he wishes to issue a German passport. I had years of experience in the computer field, but none in the genealogy field. I started looking here and there and within a day, I managed to find more than 8 generations of family history in Germany (it is quite rare to be able to find so much information in such a short period of time.)
Rumor started to spread, and my friends and acquaintances came to me with various family mysteries, the majority I managed to solve. Word of mouth brought huge diversity of fascinating family mysteries and stories.
Each discovery and crack brought further requests for solving new mysteries.
To make a long story short, my son never issued a German passport (although I found original copies of birth and marriage certificates, as well as all necessary documentation), but I was already “infected” with genealogy.
Truth to be told, I find nothing more interesting than solving family mysteries and presenting families with their genealogy. The best part is tying family connections that got disconnected over the years.
